Anonymize Google Chrome PDF Print E-mail

The new Google browser Chrome identifies every user by assigning a unique id to every installation. If you want to anonymize your Windows version of Chrome do the following:
  • Open this file: "D:\Documents and Settings\\Local Settings\Application Data\Google\Chrome\User Data\Local State"
  • for these entries change the values to "0": client_key, wrapped_key, client_id, client_id_timestamp

it should look like this:

   "safe_browsing": {
      "client_key": "0",
      "wrapped_key": "0"
   },

further down:

   "user_experience_metrics": {
      "client_id": "0",
      "client_id_timestamp": "0",

Hint: There is a tool called UnChrome, which sets user_experience_metrics to 0, but leaves safe_browsing as it is. I do not recommend using this tool. If you want a tool, you might want to try silentio.

Total Commander - the best filemanager for Windows PDF Print E-mail

When I started using computers, it has been the time of MS DOS 5.0. It was the time when programs were started by using the command line and not by clicking icons. And there was this tool called Norton Commander, which gave you a graphical user interface (GUI). It made your life much easier by being able to manage your files in completely new way.

When Windows was becoming the new standard operating system, a new tool was taking over the place of Norton Commander. This tool was called Windows Commander. After some trouble with Microsoft they had to rename it to "Total Commander". And that's still its name. But from the old times of a simple file management tool, Total Commander has become the all-in-one-super-tool in todays Windows world.

Just some of the features

  • Two file windows side by side
  • Built-in FTP client with FXP (server to server) and HTTP proxy support
  • Multi-rename tool
  • Tabbed interface, regular expressions, history+favorites buttons
  • Multiple language support
  • Enhanced Search Function - Search for files and within files
  • Compare files (now with editor) / synchronize directories
  • ZIP, ARJ, LZH, RAR, UC2, TAR, GZ, CAB, ACE archive handling + plugins
  • Thumbnails view, custom columns, enhanced search

I really want to emphasize that it is the best tool available in my opinion and probably the one that you really should consider buying. It's definitely worth it!

Do you have more than one website to take care of? Are you running Wordpress, Joomla, Drupal, or any other blog / content management system? Then you might know this problem: How to update multiple sites at once when an update of your blog or cms software comes out?
If you just have your ftp client you will probably log in to every ftp server and transfer the files to each of your sites. Now let's assume you have like ten or twenty sites, this can take quite some time. I had this problem before, so I decided to look for an automated way to update multiple websites with just one click.

These tools can make your life much easier when you need to update multiple ftp sites at once:

Wordpress FTP Update Tool

This is a very handy tool for uploading a set of files to multiple FTP sites. It was made for Wordpress updates, but it can actually be used for all multi site transfers. So you can use it for updating your favorite content management system, like Joomla, Drupal or whatever...
It works for Windows XP/Vista.

RSync

RSync is a syncronization tool for Linux, once configured it can upload your files to as much sites as you want. One feature is that it just replaces newer files, so non changed files  will not be re-uploaded again.
